About Menstrual Cycle

Menstrual Cycle is a natural change that occurs in female reproductive system that makes pregnancy possible. First period begins between 12 to 15 years which is known as Menarche. But we are noticing early onset periods as early as 8 years, due to better lifestyle.

Average Cycle Length : 21 to 35 days.

Duration of Periods : 3 to 7 days.

Symptoms :

One may experience the following before the periods start or during the cycle:

  • Menstrual Cramps
  • Tender Breast
  • Fatigue
  • Bloating
  • Headache
  • Mood Swings
  • Back Pain
  • Acne
  • Bowel Issues
Care During Menstrual Cycle

1. Diet:

  • a) Hydrate well. Drink water and eat fruits.
  • b) Eat Iron and Vitamin rich food like green leafy vegetables, meat, poultry.
  • c) Eat Serotonin rich foods like green leafy vegetables, quinoa.
  • d) Magnesium rich foods like dark chocolate, spinach and pumpkin seeds to fight with fatigue.

Avoid: Caffeinated drinks, processed food, fried & fatty food and food with high salt content.

2. Hygiene:

  • a) Changing napkins every 4 – 6 hours.
  • b) Wash yourself properly.
  • c) Don’t use soaps or hygiene products.
  • d) Discard napkins properly.

3. Exercise:

  • a) It helps reduce menstrual symptoms both physical and psychological. Avoid excessively heavy weight training.
  • b) Light walking or low cardio workout.
  • c) Yoga.

What to use during menstrual cycle?

  • Tampons and cups which goes inside your Vigna.
  • Pads worn over your underwear. We have option of using eco-friendly pads made from organic material.
  • Period underwear.
  • Reusable cloth pad.

Schedule a medical checkup if your child:

  • Has not started menstruating by the age of 15 years or within 3 years of start of breast growth.
  • Goes 3 months without periods.
  • Has periods that occur more frequently than 21 days or less frequently than 45 days.
  • Has serve pain or heavy bleeding.

Be Positive :

The things associated with puberty can be scary, but reassure your child that is normal, there is nothing to get worried about. This is a natural change.
